Here at The Baltic Inn, we’ve hosted hundreds of weddings over the years and, whilst we’d really love you to choose us as your perfect wedding venue (we’re presuming you wouldn’t be reading this if you weren’t planning one), we appreciate that every couple’s different and that your perfect venue may be very, very different to ours, however great we think it is. When this is coupled with the fact that your wedding venue is undoubtedly the most important decision you’ll make about your big day, we thought we’d share some of the wisdom we’ve accumulated over the years and share our top five tips for choosing a wedding venue:

1. Get approximate numbers

You will, of course, need to ensure that any venue you choose can accommodate the guests you intend to invite.

The Baltic Inn, for example, can handle up to 180 guests and you should always ensure that you ask any venue you’re considering about the number of guests they can accommodate. Oh, and remember to make sure that the figures they provide include evening guests too.

So, work out roughly how many guests you intend to invite and keep this figure in mind.

2. Set your budget

As with most things, it’d be a lot easier to plan a wedding with an unlimited budget but, for the vast majority of us, this simply isn’t possible. This is why it’s so important that you work out how much you can spend on your big day before you even start to consider venues. It may be disappointing to think that you’re going to need to think about budgeting when it comes to the most important day of your life but, trust us, planning a wedding is stressful enough without contending with money worries too.

3. Choose your date

Again, this may seem mundane but remember that, like you, other couples are looking for their perfect venue so choose a date that works for you, your spouse-to-be and your important guests and contact the venues you’re considering to ensure they’ll be available when you’ll need them.

4. Decide on a theme

It’s important that your wedding venue matches the theme of your big day. Whether you’re looking for ‘shabby’ chic, old-school Hollywood glamour or anything else, your venue will play a big part in whether or not it’s successful.

Deciding on your theme and desired aesthetic early will allow you to weed out unsuitable venues early on. One you’ve made this decision, you’ll be able to book a suitable venue sooner making it more likely that they’ll be able to accommodate your chosen date.

5. Check the facilities
We all know that we’ll want a well-stocked bar, great food and entertainment but many venues offer extras. Here at The Baltic Inn, we offer sweet carts, magicians, photo booths and also maintain close relationships with local vendors such as photographers and florists so that we can help couples get everything they’ll need ready.

So, before you decide on a venue, make sure that you check just what they can do for you – it can really make a difference to not only you and your guests enjoyment of your big day but can make the process of planning it a lot less stressful too!

Of course, this list if far from comprehensive but, in our experience, these are the main points you should consider when selecting the right venue for your wedding.
